Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust Awards Grant to New Aledo Library
The
Mercer Carnegie Public Library District has been awarded $60,000 by the Roy J. Carver Charitable
Trust for costs associated with the construction and furnishing of their new
facility located in Aledo, Illinois. The Library will assume a new name, The
Edwards River Public Library District, as it begins operations at the new
location this month.
The
great majority of Trust grants are given to organizations located in, and for
projects to be conducted within, the state of Iowa and portions of Illinois, as
well as to other organizations in which Mr. Carver had an interest during his
lifetime.
In
recognition of the central role occupied by public libraries in the social and
intellectual life of communities, the
Carver Trust offers directed support for the establishment, expansion and
enhancement of community-based library facilities and services.
The
Library has also received a generous gift from General Grind & Machine of
Aledo. They will be assuming the cost of the landscaping at the new facility.
The project will be undertaken by Skinner Landscaping of Aledo.
A grand
opening is planned for Saturday, April 27 from 11 am to 1 pm. Aledo Main
Street will hold a ribbon cutting to mark the event. The public is invited to
attend. The new facility is located at 412 East Main Street in Aledo.
